Why does good governance matter for every organization?

Boards entrust directors and the CEO or organization leader with significant authority and accountability for decisions. By-laws set out rules for informed and constructive decisions for all directors and within committees. But without secure and sophisticated online tools, there is risk that not all directors get the same information at the same time, with equal opportunity for comment, and consistent visibility to decisions made at and between board meetings. That’s not good governance.

Simple and
affordable for all.

Whether directors are volunteering or getting paid, or whether meetings happen in community halls or high-rise boardrooms, Aprio’s founders believed that tools for good governance should be simple and affordable for all.

Transparency
and visibility.

Inspired by our own experiences as board members, we founded Aprio to create software that empowers every organization to achieve fair and continuous access to information, effective collaboration, and visibility into every decision, at all times.

Supporting your
goals.

Aprio enhances the lives of people who dedicate their time to board work, and supports achievement of the ultimate goals of every organization we serve.

Ian Warner
President & CEO

Prior to my involvement with APRIO in 2010, I was chief operating officer of Vancity, Canada’s largest credit union. I spent five years at Vancity's subsidiary Citizens Bank of Canada, including four years as CEO and a board member. I recently completed 3 years on the board of the Alumni Association of the University of British Columbia, my alma mater, and sat on several committees. My belief in lifelong learning led me to continue my education at Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program, and through local organizations like the BC Technology Industry Association, where I Chair the SaaS C-Council. I am the proud father of three grown children, one of whom I run marathons with, and like to work with wood in my spare time.

Ken Tolmie
VP Finance & CFO

After four decades of senior management and board experience in a variety of entities and industries (public and private corporations, non-profits), I decided to apply my experience and knowledge to improving board administration and governance. I became involved in Aprio during its early days, first as an investor and part-time consultant and then as CFO and a director. My skiing, tennis and fly-fishing activities, summer place on the Coast and family (including three granddaughters) can’t keep me from creatively thinking about governance.

Federico de Giuli
VP Technology & CIO

I have over 20 years of expertise in Information Systems, Technology, Telecommunications, and Quality Systems. I have managed a variety of technology and management projects at multinational organizations (e.g. IBM, Telefonica, Dana and PMC-Sierra) I have a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and a MBA in Management of Technology. During my time at Simon Fraser University, I was intrigued with the challenge of developing governance information software and became an original founder of Aprio. Growing up in South America I was a ranked tennis player and an accomplished tango dancer. Now I spend my non-work time with my family and enjoying outdoor activities, travelling and sports.

Dee Sicklesteel
Sales Manager

Nearly 20 years ago I started my sales career in retail, and discovered how much I enjoy helping people find what fits their need. I joined the Aprio team in 2009. My love for Aprio is largely due to the strong ROI and the positive ‘green’ benefits that the solution provides. The fact that Aprio and I both have an interest in sustainability economics makes it a great fit. I really enjoy off-roading and thus belong to multiple jeep clubs. I can often be found spending time with my husband and two grown sons around a campfire.

Karen Peacey
Director, Customer Relations

I have over 20 years’ administration experience in various industries including Credit Unions, Forestry, Software and the Sports Sector and have over five years’ experience in providing software training. I take real pleasure in supporting and training our clients and helping to make their jobs easier and more efficient. When not training or supporting clients, I can be found out with friends, cheering on the Canucks. I have also recently taken up running.

John Kidder
Director

I founded APRIO to solve the problems I saw during 25 years on public and private boards where inefficient information sharing and reporting on boards caused poor decision-making and wasted people's time and money with paper-based traditional processes. I saw a need for a quality information system to make good governance simple and affordable for businesses and organizations of any size. Today, I am delighted that our software supports transparent, efficient decisions and well-run meetings of boards of all kinds - public, private, non-profit and associations. I’m also proud that Aprio is known for the best customer experience in the business.

Doug Brownridge
Chair, ICD.D

I’m an accredited Board Director, c-level executive, and successful entrepreneur with extensive experience from global technology and consumer organizations. I’ve held senior executive roles with Cadbury Schweppes, Rogers Wireless, Motorola, PMC-Sierra, Intrawest, and ACL. I’m skilled in Lean 6 Sigma and disruptive innovation, have led the development and launch of a number of game-changing technologies, and successfully developed global markets.

Isabel Meharry
Director

I’ve recently retired as the Chief Financial Officer for Green Shield Canada, which specializes in group and individual health and dental programs administration. A Chartered Accountant since 1980, I have more than 25 years’ experience in senior financial and operating roles. I’m a faculty member of Director's College in Niagara-on-the-Lake and have served as an instructor at several academic institutions. I hold an MBA from Schulich School of Business and was recently awarded my FCA. I’m a frequent speaker and panelist at financial and governance conferences and meetings.

Paul Healey
Director

I have a track record as a successful CEO who’s led organizations to achieve significant growth, creating above market expectations and taking some of Canada’s best-known brands to their next level of performance. I’ve helped deliver over $1.5 Billion in new revenue across many diverse industries including wireless, retail, automotive, telecom, cloud services, car sharing, and insurance. I look to apply my deep experience in strategy, marketing and customer experience to contribute market insight to help businesses identify their potential for further growth.
